Presentation on Term Reappointment and Continuing Appointment Process, August
Quick Review:
- Proposal was approved by BOT in Spring 2023, and we began receiving applications for continuing appointments during AY 23–24
- First continuing appointments will take effect in AY 24–25
- Six types of full-time appointments at AU under new system

Who is eligible?
-
Term faculty with more than 6 consecutive years of service are eligible for continuing appointment in AY 24-25.
-
Those who are on current multi-year contracts that do NOT end in 2025, may wait until the the last year of their current contracts to apply for continuing appointment.
Guidelines for reappointment

Units have developed their own appointment standards for one-year, three-year, and continuing appointments.

OR units have adopted the Omnibus Guidelines developed by the Provost’s office.

Any changes to guidelines require approval by CFA and provost.

Schools/units who use Omnibus Guidelines for AY 24-25: Most of CAS, SOE, SOC, OGPS, Library
-
School/Unit/Department requesting a change in Omnibus Guidelines for fall 2024: Literature
Schools/Units who use their own versions of term and continuing appointment guidelines: SPA, KSB, and SIS
*New, internally approved guidelines must be submitted to CFA for review by Oct. 31 for fall review

Process:

Slightly modified and streamlined process developed out of Provost’s Office.

Unit-specific guidelines and checklists available on DOF website.

Deadline for Deans’ offices to submit faculty files for Fall review cycle is Oct. 16 and Mar. 28 for spring cycle

Please note that a full teaching portfolio is required this year for all faculty files for action (tenure-track, tenured, term, and continuing)
