Calling All Students: Pick Up Your U·Pass 🚇🚌
All eligible full-time students are required to pick up a new U·Pass at the start of every fall semester to enjoy unlimited rides on Metrorail and Metrobus.
Visit the U·Pass website for more information and activation dates, and add your card to Apple Wallet using the university-provided date of birth and phone number: August 18, 2018 and 202-885-3111.
Full-time students who have not yet picked up or have lost their U·Pass should visit the Office of Parking & Commuter Services in the Terrace Level of Don Myers on East Campus. Replacements for lost cards are $20 and are limited to one per semester.
Spin x AU Partnership & 🛴Scooter and Bicycle🚴 Safety around AU🚶♀️🚶🚸
Receive discounts to unlock scooters and on per-minute fees on Spin rides anywhere in the District using your AU email and earn further discounts by parking in the various AU Spin corrals around campus, identifiable by the Clawed-Spin sticker and 3M tape.
Scooter and bicycle riders are encouraged to ride in the streets on main campus and in the surrounding neighborhood and use designated bike lanes, e.g. on New Mexico Avenue, whenever possible. Riding on a sidewalk creates unnecessary risk to pedestrians, especially those with mobility challenges. Please be mindful of pedestrians and communicate clearly when approaching others on multi-modal pathways.
Scooters and bicycles are prohibited from being ridden inside campus buildings and should be kept at outdoor bike racks when not in use.
When coming to campus, riders are required to use campus bike racks or scooter corrals for safety and may be eligible for in-app rewards and discounts when applicable. Do not park scooters in the neighborhood or on the periphery of campus.
🚲Ride Citywide for 5¢ a Day!🚲
Capital Bikeshare’s discounted student membership is $25 annually and offers unlimited 30-minute trips on standard Capital Bikeshare Bikes.
E-bikes can be rented for a $1 fee with membership. Use your AU email and enter code “CaBi4AU” at sign-up. Detailed sign-up instructions can be found here.
Personal Bike🚲 & Scooter🛴 Registration
Register your personal bike and scooters via the Parking Portal. A physical permit must then be picked up from the Office of Parking & Commuter Services. Registration is encouraged for both theft prevention and bicycle identification. Registration is required for Northside residents who wish to access the Cassell Bike Room.
Rideshare (Lyft & Uber) Pick-Up/Drop-Off (PUDO)🚗📍 Locations
For AU community members’ safety and traffic congestion around campus, all rideshare pick-ups and drop-offs are required to be contained to the four designated campus PUDO locations.
- East Campus Surface Lot (Constitution Hall cutout)
- South-Side (inside Fletcher Gate)
- Lydecker Way (Hughes Hall Shuttle Cutout)
- Nebraska Hall
Users will be given in-app options to select one of the four above PUDO locations.
Transportation Survey
Some members of the campus community will be asked to take part in AU’s annual Transportation Survey, which allows the Office of Sustainability and Parking & Commuter Services to better understand and provide for AU’s transportation needs, in addition to determining the university’s greenhouse emissions. The survey will be sent out to select community members on or around September 16. If you are asked to participate, please fill out the survey promptly to ensure your responses are recorded.
Good Neighbor Parking Policy Reminder
In accordance with Washington, D.C. regulations and the University’s “Good Neighbor Policy,” all guests, students, faculty, and staff driving to campus are required to park on campus with the appropriate parking pass or pay-as-you-go payment. Parking is prohibited on all neighborhood streets while visiting any university property. Abiding by this policy is a condition of enrollment and employment with American University.
