Our setting in Washington, DC affords students unparalleled access to world-class research institutions, prestigious internship opportunities, and memorable learning experiences inside and outside of the classroom. Whether you enjoy visiting the Information Age exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History, exploring the National Cryptologic Museum at National Security Agency (NSA), or attending lectures at NASA or NIST, at American University you are steps away from the best our nation has to offer. On campus, the department maintains a computer lab and other technical resources. The AU Library maintains a collection of computer science-related online resources, including databases, indexes, and mediagraphy.

    About ACM
    AU's Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) chapter holds meetings every Wednesday at 8 p.m. in DMTI 111 (Collaboration Lab). Past meeting themes have included "Working in the Tech Industry," "Hidden Figures Film Screening," and "UI/UX Product Design." Other activities include field trips such as last year's outings to the National Cryptologic Museum at National Security Agency (NSA)and the International Spy Museum.

    UPE is internationally recognized honors society for the computing and information disciplines. The mission of Upsilon Pi Epsilon is to recognize academic excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the Computing and Information Disciplines.
  • Girls Who Code
    AU chapter info
    AU Girls Who Code is a chapter of the national GWC movement, which aims to empower individuals to pursue careers in tech and provide a community for like-minded individuals who are excited to explore where coding skills can be used in their desired fields.
  • Underrepresented Students in STEM

    USS aims to support underrepresented students in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics and provide them the tools they need to succeed. We aim to not only help students maximize individual potential but to give mentorship, guidance, and financial support in furthering education to fuel the next generation of STEM leaders.

International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC)

Our students participate in the programming contest annually. To prepare for the competition, interested students meet weekly to practice. See ICPC.

Robyn Rafferty Mathias Student Research Conference

Computer Science students work on their research projects and present their result in this annual student research conference every spring.

Computer Science Project Fair

Students show off their Computer Science projects in the Computer Science Project Fair held in the Spring.

ACM Student Research Competition

Sponsored by Microsoft Research, the Association for Computing Machinery Student Research Competition enables undergraduate and graduate students to share their research results and exchange ideas with others.
