Sustainability Map & Tours
Spring Valley, Room 3rd Floor on a map
Office of Sustainability 4400 Massachusetts Avenue NW Washington, DC 20016-8163 United StatesJoin Office of Sustainability staff on a guided campus tour of AU's green buildings, vegetated roofs, green energy systems, and more. Tours begin inside the SIS Building. Tours are offered regularly during the academic year, and last approximately one hour and fifteen minutes.
Tours should be individually scheduled for classes, offices, clubs, and other groups, including those from outside the university. A trained student intern or professional staff member will lead you through AU's sustainable features.
Schedule a Tour: E-mail sustainability@american.edu specifying your preferred tour date, time, and approximate number of attendees. Regular business hours, Monday - Friday, are preferred.
Presentation Option: Guided tours can also be paired with a PowerPoint presentation that delves more deeply into our behind-the-scenes work on campus. This option is popular with classes seeking a broad overview of the principles of sustainability.
Self-Guided Tour: Our Sustainability Story Map is mobile-friendly, and can be used as a self-guided tour. This option is suitable for individuals or small groups. You can also watch our sustainability tour video featuring Office of Sustainability staff and interns.
Sustainability Lesson Plan: We've created a lesson plan that instructors can use to incorporate campus sustainability into the classroom. To access the lesson plan, visit the Faculty Sustainability page, and click on the "Curriculum and Education" tab at the bottom. The activities and materials provided in the lesson plan are a great alternative to scheduling a guided tour.
