Sara Aziz

Sara Aziz is a TLS Dean's Fellow and a dedicated third-year law student with a strong interest in technology, privacy, and criminal law. Originally from Greenwood, Mississippi, Sara earned her Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude, in Forensic Science with an emphasis in criminal justice and a minor in Spanish from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. While there, she worked as a court clerk at a local Municipal Court and was later promoted to the Public Defender’s Office, where she supported efforts to ensure defendants received proper legal representation. Sara also speaks Arabic fluently.

During her undergraduate studies, Sara actively participated in the forensic science honor society, Delta Delta Epsilon, and served as Director of Fundraising for the Delta Gamma Fraternity to fundraise for the blind. Her commitment to social justice was evident through her creation of a course on African Americans and policing to address police brutality.

Sara moved to Washington, D.C., to pursue her Juris Doctor at American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL). At AUWCL, she served as the President of the Muslim Law Student Association and a junior staffer on the Human Rights Brief communication team. Currently, she holds the roles of Co-President of the Muslim Law Student Association, President of the Technology Law Security Society, and Education and Symposium Editor for the Human Rights Brief.

This past summer, Sara studied international criminal law and counterterrorism in The Hague, and interned with the Mount Firm, gaining hands-on experience in juvenile criminal defense work before D.C. Superior Court. This fall, she is externing with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office in the Special Prosecution Division, working on cases involving financial crimes, crimes against vulnerable persons, public official misconduct, and other complex legal issues. She plans to remain in the area upon graduating in May 2025.
