Priyanjana Bhattarai is a Dean’s Fellow in the Technology, Law, & Security Program at American University’s Washington College of Law, where she is pursuing an LL.M. in Intellectual Property and Technology. Her work is centered on shaping policies that address the evolving technological landscape, particularly in the realms of intellectual property, privacy and data security.
With over five years of experience in intellectual property and technology law, Ms. Bhattarai has led significant initiatives in Nepal and India. As the founder of Kala Legal, Nepal’s first artist-centric legal consultancy, she has spearheaded efforts to protect data privacy and intellectual property rights in the creative community. Her expertise extends to policy development, having contributed to drafting Nepal’s Credit Reporting Bill and provided key insights for the amendment of the Information Technology Bill.
In addition, Ms. Bhattarai has co-authored Nepal’s Intellectual Property Handbook and collaborated on research projects with galleries, while also contributing to the development of Art and Law curricula at universities. Her work is driven by a commitment to empowering creative professionals through legal reform and advocacy.
She earned her B.A. LL.B (Hons.) from Amity University, Delhi, and is currently furthering her expertise at American University.
