Program Guidelines
Arrival Date and Orientation
International Scholars must arrive in the United States before or on the start date of the program. Upon arrival, International Scholars will meet with the International Programs Coordinator, who will be the main contact throughout the research period upon arrival in D.C. In addition, scholars will meet with International Student & Scholar Services regarding J-1 visa issues.
University Facilities
International Scholars are provided with an AU ID card and access to our state-of-the-art library for research, computer labs and meeting rooms. Additional information will be given upon arrival.
Program Cost
Program participants will pay a monthly fee of $500, and are responsible for their own travel expenses, accommodations, and any related living costs. Additional proof of finance is needed for dependents, and health coverage is required for visitors and dependents.
Program Length
International Scholars may apply for an initial term of up to one year.
Health Insurance Coverage
J-1 Exchange Visitors and their dependents are required to have health insurance that meets the minimum provisions of coverage as outlined by the United States State Department (DOS) for the entire period of the program. Scholars are required to provide written proof of insurance coverage upon arrival at American University.
