Eleanor C. Erney is a senior associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Hughes Hubbard & Reed. As part of the firm’s Arbitration practice group, Eleanor has significant experience in both investment treaty arbitrations and international commercial arbitrations under the ICSID, ICC, UNCITRAL, SIAC, and LCIA Rules. She has represented both investors and Sovereign States in arbitration proceedings in Europe, Latin America, North America, and Asia in the energy, mining, aviation, banking, construction, hotel, real estate, and restaurant sectors.
Eleanor is an experienced oral advocate, having appeared before multiple international arbitration tribunals, in U.S. Federal Court, and before the Foreign Claims Settlement Commission of the U.S. Department of Justice. She also has experience drafting pleadings and motions in cases involving international law and cross-border transactions and in proceedings to enforce arbitral awards in the U.S. courts, as well as in proceedings to set aside arbitral awards in courts in Switzerland and The Netherlands.
Eleanor is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at WCL, teaching a course on International Commercial Arbitration Advocacy for the benefit of the students competing in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition, for which she has acted as Co-Coach of the American University Team since 2017.
