Army Corps of Engineers Project Update
February 15, 2024
The Army Corps of Engineers work on the south side of campus near Fletcher Gate uncovered stained soil and munitions debris. This is a typical finding for Army Corps activity in the Spring Valley project. The debris is not considered explosive or hazardous and work is continuing. To date, all tests on the items for residual chemical agents are negative. As of this update, four World War I-era munition shells were discovered with no fuse, accelerant, or explosive material (see the photo below for an example). Additional updates will be provided if there are further developments in the project.
