Center for Leadership and Community Engagement 4400 Massachusetts Avenue NW Washington, DC 20016 United StatesThis program centers on supporting individuals and families affected by violence in St. Croix and aims to enhance the education system. Working with the Women’s Coalition of St. Croix, the Virgin Islands Infant and Toddler Program, and a local school, students will engage in direct support, advocacy, and community involvement. With a crime rate of 68% for violent crimes, St. Croix faces a critical need for assistance, which students will address through partnerships and community-centered work to help foster resilience and educational improvements.

Isysis Shaw is a senior pursuing a BA in Psychology with extensive leadership experience on and off campus. As president of AU’s Black Arts Collective, she has organized events promoting creative expression and community engagement. She also works as an afterschool teacher and serves as a desk receptionist for Housing and Residence Life. Passionate about advocacy for women and children’s mental health, Isysis looks forward to contributing to Alternative Breaks.
Genesis Kidd, a senior majoring in Legal Studies with a minor in Education, is active in multiple leadership roles, including President of Bolin Scholars Pre-Law Society and Vice President of Black Girls Vote. She tutors children to improve literacy and advocates for educational equity. Her prior experience in Alternative Breaks in Honduras inspired her to return as a leader, motivated by her passion for women’s and children’s rights.
