Dear AU Community,
As COVID-19 and related health guidance continues to evolve, we are working to ensure that you have the latest information and that our protocols support the health and safety of our community.
Yesterday, the District of Columbia announced it will modify guidelines, including lifting the city’s mask mandate in public indoor spaces starting March 1. However, these changes do not apply to schools or congregate settings such as residence halls.
For the present, AU is maintaining our current masking and proof of vaccination requirements. Our combination of testing, vaccine requirement, contact tracing, and masking has been important to the well-being of our community. We will continue to evaluate our measures as the situation evolves.
Please be aware, as you travel throughout the city, that masks are still required on public transportation, D.C. health officials continue to advise masking indoors, and businesses such as restaurants and stores may still require masks.
Lastly, we’d like to remind you that no testing will be offered on East campus on Monday, February 21, due to a major event on campus. If you need urgent testing, the WCL testing center will be open. Please see the updated schedule on the Student Health Center’s COVID-19 Testing Schedule and Information page. As always, it lists hours and days for all sites (Constitution Hall on East campus, WCL, and 4401 Connecticut Ave.).
As we head into warmer weather and Spring Break (March 6-13), with increased travel and gatherings, there will still be cases as the virus continues to circulate. Our health and safety measures, including surveillance testing, are important to supporting our community as we move forward together.
We hope your semester is going well. Thank you for helping to keep our community safe and healthy.
Sincerely,
Fanta Aw
