You are here: American University Student Affairs Housing & Residence Life Fall Move-In: Get Settled

Get Settled into Your Home at AU!

welcome to au

We're so excited to officially welcome you to American University and your HomeatAU for the 2024 - 2025 academic year! Here you'll find a helpful guide and important reminders as you get settled in

Complete Your Room Inspection Form (RIF)

It's time to complete a quick inspection of your room and confirm the condition of your room through your RIF in the AU Housing Portal. It's important that you complete your RIF as we'll use it when you move out to determine if anything was damaged during your time in your room. If it is not completed by Monday, August 26, 2024, you are accepting the current inspection as is.

Open Room Change

Room Change Process: Not every room situation is a perfect fit. Typically, during the first few weeks of classes, we do not allow room changes; this is our Room Move Freeze. The Room Change process will open to allow you to request a room change. Please visit the Room Change page for more information.

This is to ensure the safety and security of our residence halls. Failure to follow the swipe and show process may lead to sanctions through the Student Conduct process. Please review the Student Code of Conduct and Residence Hall Regulations for more information about the proper use of OneCard and residence hall keys.

Non-Frequency Residents

Maintenance issues happen: many of them (HVAC, bathrooms, etc.) can be addressed with a simple 2Fix request. You can do this one of two ways:

These are made to the larger Facilities Maintenance teams of AU's campus, while others can be directly sent to Housing (housing@american.edu). To best route your request, use your AU Housing Portal, which will guide you to the appropriate resource and, often, allow you to submit a request for maintenance within the portal itself. Click here to learn more about the 2Fix process.

In the event of an emergency or sensitive facilities situation, contact 2FIX by calling (202) 885-2349. Emergencies are situations that demand immediate response to protect and save lives and property (i.e. elevator trap call, fire, fire alarm, leak, flood, power outage, major equipment failure, etc.).

Frequency Residents

Light bulb out? Problem with your blinds? No problem. Simply submit a maintenance request through email to frequencyconcierge@uippm.com or by calling 202-919-5871 for urgent concerns.

Our campus partners in New Student and Family Programs Office are here to help and support you as you first week at AU progresses!
