Representative Lizzie Fletcher spoke to WeLead2021. Elected in the ‘Year of the Woman’, Fletcher represents Texas’ Seventh Congressional District, in the greater Houston area. In the 117th Congress, Fletcher serves on the House Energy & Commerce Committee where she sits on the Subcommittees on Health, Communications & Technology, and Consumer Protection & Commerce. She also serves on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.

A resident of Houston and Congressional District 7 nearly all of her life, Congresswoman Fletcher was elected to represent the district in 2018. Prior to her election, she represented Houstonians in the courtroom as a lawyer on a wide range of matters, first at an international law firm headquartered in Houston and later at a boutique litigation firm, where she became its first woman partner.Congresswoman Fletcher earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Kenyon College, having been elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and a J.D. from William & Mary Law School. At William & Mary, she was the editor-in-chief of the William & Mary Law Review and received the Gambrell Professionalism Award. Between college and law school, Fletcher worked in the business and non-profit sectors for six years.
