- Election Day and Thanksgiving Week Updates
As you plan for the fall, please note the below schedule and modality guidance and reminders.
Election Day
AU will be closed on Tuesday, November 5 for the US General Election. Synchronous class meetings will be canceled, and faculty should work with their students to assign alternative learning opportunities as needed so that courses remain on track.
Thanksgiving Week – Staff Modalities
All staff assigned to a hybrid modality are permitted to work remotely during the week of Thanksgiving (November 23 through November 27). Staff assigned to a Full On-Campus Presence modality should consult with their department heads on whether their duties would allow for any remote work during the week of Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving Week – Class Schedule
In addition, faculty have been encouraged to hold their Thanksgiving week class meetings online provided that the learning outcomes can be met through remote instruction. While some classes may need to remain in person and instructors are responsible for making the final decision, we expect that many classes will be held virtually. Professors should be communicating their course modality for that week early in the semester. If students have any questions, they should consult their syllabus and ask their instructor directly.
As a reminder, classes on Monday, November 25 will follow their usual schedule. In accordance with the 2024–2025 academic calendar, classes that normally meet on Fridays will meet at their usual time on Tuesday, November 26. Classes that meet only on Tuesdays are canceled for that week. No residential classes will be held Wednesday, November 27 through Sunday, December 1. The Thanksgiving week recommendation for class modalities does not apply to the Washington College of Law or to programs with special calendars (such as the 4-term calendar).
Wishing you all the best for the academic year!
