Bio
Maryam Khatami is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and Staff Clinician at the American University Center for Well-Being. Prior to joining the clinical staff at AU, she worked in private practice, school, and hospital settings. Maryam specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders. Outside of her specialization, her clinical interests also include identity development, acculturation, life transitions, interpersonal relationship concerns, social justice and empowerment, and the experiences of students of Color and in particular, Muslim and Southwest Asian and North African (SWANA) students. Her therapeutic approach is integrative as she employs Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Inference-Based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), with a focus on the therapeutic relationship as central to growth and change. Maryam works with her clients to create goals that feel appropriately challenging and that build on their strengths. Maryam is a fluent Farsi/Persian speaker and in her free time, she enjoys photography, spending time with family and friends, being an auntie to her nephews, and connecting with her community.
