Bio
For the past two years Lia worked as Director of Communications and Social Media Manager for Ahead of the Game Academy and A Step Ahead Chess in San Antonio, TX, where she organized events, managed media presence, and oversaw member relations for 900+ members. Prior to that she was actively engaged in community and volunteer activities at her alma mater, Iowa State University (ISU).
As ISU's STEM Scholar, Lia is passionate about environmental science and sustainability which is evident from her involvement with several sustainability organizations on campus. She served as Director of Sustainability, ISU's Student Government; Co-President, The Green Umbrella and volunteered for the Food Recovery Network, where she educated ISU's community of food waste and hunger.
Additionally, Lia gained experience in environmental issues through research with the US Department of Defense as the Natural Resource Management Intern, National Science Foundation Undergraduate Researcher at Texas A&M University, and Service-Learning Student Researcher at ISU. Lia has an impressive list of publications and presentations.
Lia graduated from Iowa State University with a BS in Environmental Science in 2019. She moved to Washington, D.C. to pursue a master's degree at American University, for the Fall 2022 Semester.
