LLCs go beyond housing—they’re transformative experiences that prepare you for leadership and success at AU and beyond.

What is a Living-Learning Community?

Living-Learning Communities (LLCs) are immersive learning experiences designed to bring students with common academic interests together for heightened intellectual and social success. LLCs assist students by placing them in close-knit living environments that support scholastic success, cultivate safe and supportive environments, encourage personal growth, and foster social responsibility. The ultimate goal is to help students mature into the best version of themselves, both personally and professionally, so they can become leaders at AU and beyond.

Living-Learning Opporunities for Everyone

AU’s LLCs offer opportunities for students at every level:

  • First-Year Students: Programs like University College, DC Community Impact Scholars, and the AU Honors Program immerse you in academic and co-curricular experiences that build a strong foundation.

  • Upperclassmen: Explore advanced opportunities like AU Compass, designed to help you chart your professional and personal path, or AU Catalyst, which focuses on positioning you as a leader in work, graduate school, and life (which is a learning community, without a required living component).

No matter where you are in your college journey, AU’s LLCs provide a vibrant, engaging community that supports your goals.
