Dear AU Community,

During the ongoing Army Corps of Engineers remediation work on the south side of campus near Fletcher Gate, 9 munitions-related items and debris were discovered today. Out of an abundance of caution, the Army Corps is assessing the site to determine what support, if any, is needed to address the situation. They are coordinating with DC Fire to identify what measures might be necessary to safely remove the items. The Army Corps has indicated that there is no known threat to campus safety based on the current information and they are following established protocols to investigate and mitigate the debris.

The work is currently contained to the existing construction zone and there are no changes to campus activity at this time. Some DC Fire vehicles are parked in the vicinity of the site in support of the assessment. Additional updates will be provided as we receive more information from the Army Corps of Engineers.
